- Last few years the big topic is sustainability in production and in life. So bicycles as a mean of transport are being promoted as most sustainable way to commute and get around cities. Rightfully so because they are.
- Production of bicycles on the other hand has just scratched the surface of being a sustainable production. All brands are marketing them self as a green option but are they all so green? As a matter of fact there are lot of bicycle brands being transported from another side of the world to the end users. Materials used are not recyclable. On the other hand production process is not clean at all in some companies.
- Are we asking ourselves, as purchasing managers and company owners, when buying a bicycle or bicycle parts in some remote Asia village how is this part made and what impact does it have on our planet? Is it made in a right way? Is anyone in industry asking anybody about their production process and if they are making sure that their business is as much sustainable as possible?
- Did you ever ask your supplier: are your products being made sustainably? What are you doing to make it so? Do you have a CSR manager who is taking care of this?
- Let us think about this for a moment and be honest to ourselves. If we don’t make sure that we have sustainable production in the end public will know this and lose trust in us and brands we represent. Do we want to be known as hypocrites who are promoting sustainability but not being sustainable ourselves? Will we finish like the car industry?
- Next time you buy a product think if it has been made in a right way , is this brand representing honest sustainable way of production? Consider the big picture, not just price, delivery time and payment terms.
