Thun’s solutions for PAS sensors

  • Welcome again 馃檪
  • In my last BLOG I was talking about the possible issues with assembly of pedal assist sensors, better known as PAS sensor. These problems occur in the assembly due to a variety of models and lack of standard.
  • To help overcome these problems one company took the time to develop a sensor compatible bottom bracket range. That company is THUN. They are well known for their reliability and long lifetime of the products. Advantage they have is being focused only on bottom brackets thus being able to bring innovation and many many small improvements others are not thinking about.
  • To put it simply sensor compatible range of bottom brackets is a products range specifically designed to be adaptable to ever changing PAS sensors appearing on the market.
  • First and very important point is the availability of 216 different spindle sizes. With this you can find a perfect size both for your chain line and to accommodate your sensors between the cups and cranks. This number is growing by the day as new situations emerge. Just to mention all spindles are ISO certified for MTB and well as city, trekking and young adult bicycle standards.
  • Secondly there is a variety of BB cups available to accommodate any press in sensors in them. This is a two shoulder sensor compatible system, adding strength and getting a better grip to prevent thread loosening.
  • Another type of cups option is for right hand mounted sensors being mounted under the right cup. This is BRJ sensor compatible cup in combination with special right cup, which allows you to mount the sensor in combination with a thick chainguard bracket under the right cup. So all together this system allows you to have 2-3 mm of add-ons under the right cup.
  • And with all this variety there is a choice of these systems available for a variety of BB shell widths. So there is a system for frames with a standard 68mm bottom bracket shell, then for 73mm and 83mm. With steel sleeve there is a option for 100mm as well.
  • All of this is available with their premium BB range with models Ibex, Jive, Tango and Zumba.
  • Unfortunately there is one problem that they cant solve and that is cable length and plug type of PAS sensor.
  • As I said earlier THUN only focuses on bottom brackets!
  • Thank you for your attention and if you have and further questions please feel free to write in comments or email me.
