Torque sensor x-cell rt 3.0 made by thun

  • Hello, welcome to 128.bike
  • Recently I was talking about e bikes with front and rear motors and their advantages. Besides these advantages there were complaints by some that these bikes do not provide a natural ride feeling due to motor starting on full power when you start pedaling.
  • Because of this a new product was developed which measures the torque used to turn the pedals so that the controller can adjust the motor assistance according to this read out and make the ride smooth and give it that natural feeling.
  • One of the best solutions on the market was to make this measurement through the chainwheel and measure it on the bottom bracket spindle. As a market leader Thun was one of the first companies to develop a torque measurement BB and named it X-Cell RT with now current version 3.0.
  • So what makes Thun’s  X-Cell RT so special ?
  • First it Is the technology used for making measurements. X-Cell works by measuring the elasto-magnetic force. It has a magnetized spindle and electronics that measure the curves of the magnetic forces when the spindle is under micro twisted under pressure. This technology makes the readings constant basically forever since there are no parts or magnets which can fall off like with cheaper technologies.
  • Secondly this BB is made in such a way that it will last really long.  Special composite materials are used for the cups and sleeve, it has specially CNC machined bearing seats and high quality bearings. Then there are specially designed cups with rubber seals to keep the water and dust away giving it even longer lifetime. Thick zinc plating so that there will be no rust or damages due to harsh weather conditions. One must understand that it is important to have a well designed and produced sensory BB that will last because service of this part can be quite costly.
  • Third it is made and certified according to ISO standards for both city trekking and MTB. Another requirement of ISO standard is that all components of e bike must be at least IPx5 water resistant and X-Cell RT exceeds this standard.
  • Fourth it has a standardized cable and SIS connector meaning that there are always spare parts available for the service network right away. So in case you need to fix your e-bike you can do so really fast. Service is not more complicated than changing the regular BB.
  • So to conclude everything X-Cell RT is a great solution which allows you to have a natural feeling ride experience, extends the range of your battery by over 50% , is long lasting and easy to service. Many have recognized this already and there are many amazing bikes out there being enjoyed with this system.
  • Thank you for your attention, in case you have any further questions or wish to know more details please feel free to write me an email or drop a comment. Keep exploring the bikes world with 128.bike !

      Hello
Try to write directly to : info@thun.de
Or to the bike brand your sensor is on. Usually they should be able to service it in cooperation with Thun.
If the bearings are the problem, you can try to change the bearings in your local shop too.

  2. hello. I have thun x cell rt 3.0 I want to mount it to the bike I need technical data supply voltage, what is the output voltage of the torque sensor? What range 2-4V? Is the torque sensor double-sided? best regards Roman
